Seasonal fluctuation is often caused by some non-economic phenomenon, such as changes in weather conditions and seasons, and people's ways of working.<\/p>\n\n\n\nTrend series<\/strong> describes the direction of development in the longer term. When interpreting the downstream part of a trend, it is a good idea to exercise caution, as the latter part of the trend graph often changes after updating future monthly data. Alongside the trend, it is also worth studying the behavior of the original index. The trend graph is also well suited for comparing different industries and regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\nChange percentages<\/strong> calculated from the original index series and comparing the development of the period under consideration with the corresponding period of the previous year. The quarterly, half-yearly and year-on-year change percentages are calculated by comparing the sum of the index point figures for the desired period of the original index series with the corresponding sum of the previous year. Turnover is calculated net of VAT. The turnover to be described may include some non-turnover items in the profit and loss account, such as sales of fixed assets, other income, extraordinary items, purchases with inverse tax liability, own use of products and sale of agencies. Exceptional items are removed from the calculation. <\/p>\n\n\n\nNumber of staff<\/strong>-indicator refers to the number of full-time employed persons in enterprises during a calendar month. Two half-time employees are equivalent to one full-time employee. The personnel volume indicator is produced on the basis of the personnel volume data of the enterprise register two years ago and the salary sum development adjusted for changes in the level of earnings. The number of employees of self-employed persons is estimated on the basis of the development of turnover. For enterprises that do not have personnel data from two years ago, the number of employees is calculated by dividing the wages and salaries sum of the enterprise by the average wages and salaries of the industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\nTurnover<\/strong>\u00a0Calculated without VAT. The turnover of the OAV data may include some non-turnover items in the profit and loss account, such as sales of fixed assets, other income, extraordinary items, purchases with inverse tax liability, own use of products and sales of agencies. Exceptional items are removed from the calculation of the index.<\/p>\n\n\n\nExport data<\/strong> They are part of the turnover. Exports consist of non-taxable turnover, intra-EU exports and extra-EU exports. Exports are distributed to the region on the basis of the share of the turnover of the establishment located in the province of the company. The export turnover highlights the importance of the location of the head office, as the head office's turnover is usually higher. <\/p>\n\n\n\nStructural data<\/strong> include the number of enterprises and establishments included in the assignment, the annual absolute number of turnover, exports or wages and salaries sum in euros, depending on the variable to be described, or the total annual number of employees. Structural data are produced for the most recent publication year of Statistics Finland's statistics on the structure and financial statements of enterprises. The business register is also used as the source of personnel figures and turnover data in euros.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sources<\/h2>\n\n\n\nThe data source for the business cycle publication for clusters is Statistics Finland's customer-specific business cycle service. The monthly indices of the business cycle service measure the change in the variable under review relative to the level of the base year. The base year is 2021 (2021=100). The source material of the statistics is the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax data (OAV data), in addition to which Statistics Finland's direct data collection and annual statistics are used.\u00a0The calculation of the indices is based on change estimation and the so-called panel method is used in the calculation. The method compares the comparable observations of the month under review and the corresponding month of the previous year by taking into account, among other things, mergers and acquisitions and changes in reporting practices related to accounting. The data also covers start-ups and closures.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe data will be revised through future publications due to, for example, changes in the data available for calculation or new information received. For the latest month, the coverage of the Tax Administration's OAV data, measured by turnover, is approximately 95-98 per cent. The OAV data is collected for a period of 12 months, during which time companies can also report changes to the data they have previously reported. The annual data of the Business Register are also updated with a delay of 2-12 months from the end of the period under review. When interpreting the downstream part of a trend, it is a good idea to exercise caution, as the latter part of the trend graph often changes after updating future monthly data. Alongside the trend, it is also worth studying the behavior of the original index. The trend graph is also well suited for comparing different industries and regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\nChange percentages<\/strong> calculated from the original index series and comparing the development of the period under consideration with the corresponding period of the previous year. The quarterly, half-yearly and year-on-year change percentages are calculated by comparing the sum of the index point figures for the desired period of the original index series with the corresponding sum of the previous year. Turnover is calculated net of VAT. The turnover to be described may include some non-turnover items in the profit and loss account, such as sales of fixed assets, other income, extraordinary items, purchases with inverse tax liability, own use of products and sale of agencies. Exceptional items are removed from the calculation. <\/p>\n\n\n\nNumber of staff<\/strong>-indicator refers to the number of full-time employed persons in enterprises during a calendar month. Two half-time employees are equivalent to one full-time employee. The personnel volume indicator is produced on the basis of the personnel volume data of the enterprise register two years ago and the salary sum development adjusted for changes in the level of earnings. The number of employees of self-employed persons is estimated on the basis of the development of turnover. For enterprises that do not have personnel data from two years ago, the number of employees is calculated by dividing the wages and salaries sum of the enterprise by the average wages and salaries of the industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\nTurnover<\/strong>\u00a0Calculated without VAT. The turnover of the OAV data may include some non-turnover items in the profit and loss account, such as sales of fixed assets, other income, extraordinary items, purchases with inverse tax liability, own use of products and sales of agencies. Exceptional items are removed from the calculation of the index.<\/p>\n\n\n\nExport data<\/strong> They are part of the turnover. Exports consist of non-taxable turnover, intra-EU exports and extra-EU exports. Exports are distributed to the region on the basis of the share of the turnover of the establishment located in the province of the company. The export turnover highlights the importance of the location of the head office, as the head office's turnover is usually higher. <\/p>\n\n\n\nStructural data<\/strong> include the number of enterprises and establishments included in the assignment, the annual absolute number of turnover, exports or wages and salaries sum in euros, depending on the variable to be described, or the total annual number of employees. Structural data are produced for the most recent publication year of Statistics Finland's statistics on the structure and financial statements of enterprises. The business register is also used as the source of personnel figures and turnover data in euros.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sources<\/h2>\n\n\n\nThe data source for the business cycle publication for clusters is Statistics Finland's customer-specific business cycle service. The monthly indices of the business cycle service measure the change in the variable under review relative to the level of the base year. The base year is 2021 (2021=100). The source material of the statistics is the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax data (OAV data), in addition to which Statistics Finland's direct data collection and annual statistics are used.\u00a0The calculation of the indices is based on change estimation and the so-called panel method is used in the calculation. The method compares the comparable observations of the month under review and the corresponding month of the previous year by taking into account, among other things, mergers and acquisitions and changes in reporting practices related to accounting. The data also covers start-ups and closures.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe data will be revised through future publications due to, for example, changes in the data available for calculation or new information received. For the latest month, the coverage of the Tax Administration's OAV data, measured by turnover, is approximately 95-98 per cent. The OAV data is collected for a period of 12 months, during which time companies can also report changes to the data they have previously reported. The annual data of the Business Register are also updated with a delay of 2-12 months from the end of the period under review.
