Europe Day was celebrated on 9 May. In Oulu, in celebration of Europe Day, the Pop-up Bistro \u00c1 sector France from 9 to 10 May 2025 was opened in cooperation between the Northern Ostrobothnia Info Point and OSAO's educational restaurant Hiliku.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pop-up Bistro \u00c1 sector France was open for two days from 9 to 10 May and was run by students of the Hiliku teaching restaurant. Bistro's catering was prepared by them and the students also took care of the practical arrangements of the bistro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students' Pop-up Bistro \u00c1 sector France celebrated Europe and Finland as part of it. This was reflected in the pop-up bistro offering; I found some French delicacies on the list. The international atmosphere was created by serving bistro delicacies straight to the tables!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pop-up Bistro \u00c1 sector France also offered live music. Music duos Nanna Louhela & Elias Niskanen and Marianna Niinimaa & Juuso Luokkola performed every hour on both Friday and Saturday. The programme was organised by the Northern Ostrobothnia EU Information Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

European Day of Languages, 26 September<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The European Day of Languages is celebrated on 26 September. To celebrate the day, the Northern Ostrobothnia EU Information Point will participate in an event organised jointly by the Language and Communication Education Centre of the University of Oulu and the Language Centre of OAMK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., you can visit the EU Info Point to learn more about your EU career and language requirements. There is also information about the EU in general. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. there will be a panel discussion in cooperation with the participation of the European Commission's Head of Citizens' Communications Kati Laitinen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speech by the President of the Commission on the State of the EU, 13 September<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will deliver her annual State of the Union address on 13 September. This is the last speech of von der Leyen\u2019s term as President of the Commission, in cooperation with the European elections taking place in June 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talk about the future of Europe in Oulu on 8 September<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Academy Research Fellow, Centre for European Studies, University of Helsinki Timo Miettinen<\/strong> Speech on Europe in Oulu on Friday 8 September. The presentation starts at 4 p.m. at Culture House Valve in the performance room of the Takujen Paljetti caf\u00e9. At the same time, Miettinen will speak at the opening ceremony of the New Literature Festival of the Oulu Writers' Regional Regional Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a thoughtful introduction, at 5 p.m., there will be a panel discussion on the current state and future of Europe.\u00a0In addition to Timo Miettinen, professors will participate in the panel Jouni-Matti Kukkanen<\/strong> University of Oulu, Manager of International Affairs, Regional Assembly of Oulu Region Hanna Honkam\u00e4kil\u00e4<\/strong> and a former Member of Parliament, Minister and Member of the European Parliament Liisa Jaakonsaari<\/strong>. The discussion is based on Timo Miettinen's book, which was awarded as the historical work of 2021. Europe - History of the political community<\/em> (Work 2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European event is organised by Finnish non-fiction writers and the Oulu Writers' Regional Regional Assembly in cooperation in cooperation with the EU Information Point of the Regional Assembly of Oulu Region. Come to Hurmos on 7 September!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY) and the Student Union of Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OSAAKO) and the Student Union of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (O\u2019Diako) will host Hurmos, the opening event of the academic year, on 7 September. The event combines OYY's and OSAAKO's own inaugural events in cooperation with Vulcanalia and Preludi's entire university community in Oulu as a major celebration of student culture, and this year the Northern Ostrobothnia Information Point will also participate in the celebration at the Linnanmaa Day Event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stand is located in the iconic location of the Linnanmaa campus: close to green coat racks. The information point has one of the official passes of the event. After completing the task, you will receive one stamp on your passport and you will be one step closer to receiving the overall badge of the event. At the same time, you can get acquainted in cooperation with the EU and, of course, you can also get an official overall badge from the stand of the Northern Ostrobothnia EU Information Point after completing the questionnaire.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tietopiste Oulu Village Festival 1.9.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Oulu Days will be celebrated from 1 to 3 September in different parts of the city and villages. The Northern Ostrobothnia EU Info Point will be present at the Oulu Village Festival in Kuusisaari on Friday 1 September from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Balloons and information about the European Union are distributed in the EU Info Point tent. There is a crafting and drawing point for the little ones in the family. Those who have completed the questionnaire at the tent will also participate in the raffle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the event, which is open to everyone and free of charge, you can get to know more than 50 different stakeholders, such as the multicultural centre Villa Victor, Kiertokaari, Oulu Theatre and numerous Regional Regional Assemblys. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program is abundant on two different stages and at 17 o'clock there will be a bridge dance on the bridge at Kissankoskinranta. folk-like traditions are directed and led by R\u00e4ll\u00e4 band. The festival ends in cooperation with a joint singing event starting at 6 p.m., where familiar songs from the north are sung Mikko Alatalon<\/strong> under the leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question Time in cooperation with Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen, 8 May City of Oulu<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On the eve of Europe Day, 8 May European Commissioner for International Partnerships visits Oulu Jutta Urpilainen<\/strong>. You can meet him during a question time open to all citizens. Come and ask the Commissioner directly about your concerns!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Europe Day debate on Valkean Kes\u00e4katu, 9 May<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The main event of Europe Day itself is: Tuesday 9 May, 13.15 \u2013 2.30 p.m.<\/strong>. The role of the north in a changing Europe is discussed at the Valkea shopping centre in Oulu. Speaking on the subject, Professor Eeva-Kaisa Prokkola<\/strong> University of Oulu and Specialist Eerikki Vainio<\/strong> The EU Office for Eastern and Northern Finland.
