The area symbolized by the coat of arms of Ostrobothnia originally included all of Northern Finland and the coastal area of the Gulf of Bothnia as far as Satakunta. The Regional Assembly of Oulu Region, formed in 1931, comprised the regions of Oulu and Lapland. It took as its emblem the historical coat of arms of Ostrobothnia. The coat of arms of Ostrobothnia remained in cooperation with the Regional Assembly of Oulu Region after Lapland formed its own county and regional Regional Assembly. The historical coat of arms theme of Ostrobothnia has been used exclusively by the Regional Assembly of Oulu Region. Historical coats of arms have no legal protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 1995, the Regional Regional Assembly of Northern Ostrobothnia asked the Ministry of the Interior to confirm the right to use the historical coat of arms of Ostrobothnia to the Regional Regional Assembly of Northern Ostrobothnia, which maintains its tradition. On 27 January 1997, the National Archives Heraldry Working Group for the New regions wrote that the issue of the coat of arms of the New regions had been overwintering for a long time while we waited for the question of the division of regions to be resolved. In its letter of 19 June 1997, the National Archives Service stated that it was in favour of the proposal for the regional Arms of Northern Ostrobothnia, which was approved by the the Board of the Regional Regional Assembly in 1993.

Marsh Labrador Tea \/ Marsh labrador tea, northern labrador tea, wild rosemary (Rhododendrom tomentosum)<\/em><\/strong>

It belongs to the Rhododendron family. Peatlands inflorescence abundant. Its powerful, intoxicating scent fills the Peatlandss of Northern Ostrobothnia in the summer.

Northern labrador tea is a flowering plant in the subsection Ledum of the large genus Rhododendron in the family Ericaceae. It grows in peaty soils, moss and shrubby areas. The flowers are small, in cooperation with a five-lobed white corolla, and produced several together in a corymb 3-5 cm diameter. They emit strong smell to attract bees and other pollinating insects.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crane \/ Crane (Grus grus)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1985, a jury of experts from the Finnish Ornithological Society selected a crane as the regional bird of Northern Ostrobothnia. The crane is one of the largest birds in Finland. Like Suopursu, it thrives in the abundant Peatlandss of Northern Ostrobothnia, but also in coastal meadows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cranes thrive in marshlands, the most common soil in Oulu region, where one can easily observe them stalking cranberries and frogs on misty autumn mornings. Their spectacular mating dance and beauty have made cranes highly symbolc birds in many cultures in cooperation with records dating back to ancient times.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slate \/ Slate<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Northern Ostrobothnia's regional stone is a Slate. Slates are a common group of stone species in Northern Ostrobothnia, which includes several different types of stone. More than half of the minerals in the rock species are those that are oriented and flattened under pressure and movement. The color varies according to the quality and quantity of enamels and minerals.

The regional rock, slate, is found all over the region. Slates are formed through regional metamorphism into foliated grey, greenish or black rocks.<\/em>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whitefish \/ Common whitefish<\/em>\u00a0(Coregonus lavaretus)<\/em><\/strong>

The whitefish that belongs to salmonids live in the sea, lakes and rivers. The number of gill rakers in the front gill arches is used as a basis for the separation of whitefish forms. The regional fish of Ostrobothnia is specifically migratory whitefish (gill raker count 30). Siika is a common festive and everyday food fish in Northern Ostrobothnia.

The common whitefish is a species in the salmon family sometimes also called the lavaret or the powan. It is a desirable catch among the fishing and its delicious white meat, smoked or rawpickled, belongs to traditional serving of Oulu region.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stoat \/ Stoat (Mustela erminea), ermine<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the second smallest predator in the North. The Stoat changes color according to the season. In summer it is brown on the back and white on the abdomen, in winter its coat is completely white. The tail is black. K\u00e4rpp\u00e4 is the coat of arms of the region. In heraldry, the ermine symbolizes purity.

Stoat has spread all over the region, even on many small islands where it came along frozen surfaces. The fur is chestnut brown in summer, in cooperation with a lighter underside. In winter, the stoat\u2019s fur turns completely white, except for the black tip to its tail.<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
