Cultural environment walk in Lumijoki Varjakka

The tour introduces you to the history of Varjakannokka on the shores of the Bothnian Bay.
to the present day. Varjakannokka has been permanently inhabited since at least the end of the 19th century and fishing has been a significant livelihood for its inhabitants. Fisherman's residences and other buildings dating back more than a hundred years have been preserved in the area. The fishing family's home museum, Aukku Cottage, is open during the event.
Varjakka has traditionally also been an important recreation and holiday destination for both locals and tourists. Fishing in Varjakka is also a living heritage. The fish hall, guest harbour and the 100-year-old Hailuoto boat serving as a café are available to fishermen from both the sea and the mainland.
This event, organised by the Varjakankylä Association of Lumijoki, the Association of Architects of Northern Finland SAFA and the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia, is part of the European Cultural Environment Days. Hailuoto's café is open during the event from 6 pm to 8 pm.
