At its meeting on 15 April 2024, the Provincial Government approved the target regional structure 2050 for Northern Ostrobothnia. The regional structure work complements the information on the current state of Finland's regional and municipal structure in the national land use development picture work and creates a self-sufficient vision for the future of Northern Ostrobothnia. The report on the regional structure of North Ostrobothnia 2050, as well as the thematic and composite maps, serve as a complementary knowledge base in the proposal phase of the regional plan for the energy and climate phase and in the preparation of the new regional programme starting in late 2024.

It takes into account the ongoing development trends at different levels and the effects of the changed world situation, and also boldly includes long-term goal-orientation, believing in the effectiveness of our own development work. The region will be developed on the basis of a balanced regional structure, strengthening national and international development zones, to support the well-being and sustainable growth of Finland as a whole.
