The EU Info Point participates in autumn events in different parts of Northern Ostrobothnia!
The autumn of the Northern Ostrobothnia EU Information Point will once again take EU affairs to where people are. During September, you can come across the information point at Oulun Päivi, at the opening of the academic year for higher education students in Hurmos, on the European Day of Languages and at the Potato Market in Tyrnävä.
European living room in Oulu Days 4.9.
Autumn season kicks off Oulu Village Festival Friday, September 4. The free event in Mannerheiminpuisto brings together the city's services, organisations, communities and recreational opportunities. Oulu Village Festival is part of Oulu Days and Oulu2026 cultural programme.
The EU Info Point will build a European living room at the event, where both new and old people from Oulu can come to talk and get information about the EU with coffee or juice. For children, the tent offers folding of paper fleas.
In Hurmos 10.9. the first part of a collection of overall badges
In September, the EU Info Point will focus on students. Hurmos2026 The event will take place from 9 to 11 September and will include a programme on student culture in the centre of Oulu, an organisation fair on the Linnanmaa campus and the Hurmos festival in Kuusisaari.
The EU Info Point has its own stand in Hurmos and a brand new EU-themed overall badge. A limited number of 700 characters is available. This year's badge starts a collection of five badges: In the coming years, Hurmos will always be divided into one new section, and eventually five characters will form a constellation together. Each brand also works as it is.
Language Day is celebrated at the University's Pihlajapiha on 24 September.
European Day of Languages will be celebrated at the University of Oulu in Pihlajapiha on 24 September 2026. The actual European Day of Languages is on Saturday 26 September. The aim of the day is to highlight the diversity of European languages and to encourage language learning.
The event, which is held outdoors in the yard, includes various stands, a lecture and a language café. The North Ostrobothnia EU Info Point, which supported the organisation of the event, is also involved in the day's programme, together with translators from the Commission's Representation in Finland. A special guest at the event is also an ice hockey player. Marko "Mörkö" Anttila!
September ends with the Potato Market 26.9.
At the end of the month, you will still find the EU information point the Sea Buckthorn Potato Market Saturday 26 September. The traditional harvest festival of Tyrnäva, known for its potatoes, has grown over the years into a market event for more than 10,000 visitors. The event is organized by Lions Club Tyrnävä and the proceeds are used for charity.
Tyrnävä is accompanied by the Deputy Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Finland Kati Laitinen. So come and meet the people at the EU Info Point and discuss topical EU issues in the middle of the traditional market atmosphere.

On 9 May, Europe Day, we will discuss security and the future
“A changing Europe – where are we now, where are we going tomorrow?”

This year, Europe Day will be celebrated on Saturday 9 May in Oulu, Finland, around themes of future and security. Topics will be addressed by the Director of the International Centre for Defence and Security Kristi Raik Under the heading ‘Changing Europe – where are we now, where are we going tomorrow?’, Ms Raik will be followed by a panel discussion, which will delve deeper into the topic from a Northern Finnish perspective. At the end of the event, the coffee will be served of the Northern Ostrobothnia EU Information Point will be available in the lower lobby of the library. Access to the event is free. Welcome!
What is an EU information point?
The Northern Ostrobothnia EU Information Point is part of the Europe Direct network operating in Europe. The network consists of 423 information points, eight of which are located in Finland.
The information points aim to increase interaction between EU decision-makers and citizens and encourage them to participate in the debate on the EU and its future.
