Finland's main railway group proposes Tampere, Oulu and Seinäjoki as hubs of the European core network
Finland's main railway group presents three reasons for investing in the main railway to the Finnish government and the authors of the national 12-year transport system plan (transport12). The proposals of the main railway group are intended for the preparation of traffic12, the state budgets and amending budgets for next year and for the coming years, as well as the national proposal for EU recovery funding.
The main railway group hastens to fill Finland Quality criteria for the core network of the Connecting Europe Facility (TEN-T) programme and contribution to the reform of the programme
Finland is committed to meeting the criteria of the core network by 2030. in cooperation in cooperation with the current decisions, Finland will not meet the requirement of sufficient track capacity on the main line.
In the reform, Finland must propose Tampere (rail terminal and airport and logistical service level), Oulu (airport and port and logistical service level) and Seinäjoki (rail terminal and logistical service level) as hubs of the core network. Today, Helsinki is the only node in the core network of Finland's main railway line. The port of Seinäjoki-Vaasa-Vaasa must be shown as a rail connection to the comprehensive network (e.g. a ferry connection to Sweden).
According to the main railway group, the importance and needs of Western Finland are not sufficiently identified in Finland's transport policy at the moment.
Western Finland from Helsinki to Tornio produces 68 per cent of the value of our exports. This must also be reflected in the sustainable transport investment targets presented by Finland.
Main line group proposes to broaden the financing base for transport investments
Enlargement should make it possible to use the EU's Recovery and Resilience Facility to invest in the main line. The 12-year national transport system plan must include more development funding than at present.
In the EU's recovery funding, Finland must present targets that promote the development and accessibility of infrastructure. Investing in sustainable transport supports the pan-European and national objectives for green growth, sustainable infrastructure and strengthening digitalisation. The development measures allocated to Finland's main railway line and its connections support the functioning of European transport networks and improve Finland's access to European Union CEF transport funding.
