The regional cooperation group supports 18 projects to be funded under the EU's Regional and Structural Policy Programme for a Renewable and Skilled Finland 2021-2027

Utajärvi terminal supporting refining and regional vitality (UtaTe) / JTF

The project supports the bioeconomy and circular economy concepts of SMEs by developing a wood, bioeconomy and circular economy terminal. The terminal to be built in Hietaselä's industrial district master plan area near Mustikkakangas in Utajärvi will enable the development of the circular economy and the utilisation of side streams in the area.

The aim of the project is to develop a multidisciplinary, professional Small Business Hub incubator that provides coaching, business skills and functional learning for entrepreneurship. The purpose of the project is to acquire APT (Atom Probe Tomography) equipment for the Material Analysis Centre (MAKE) of the University of Oulu. The project will create the necessary capabilities to start TSG measurements of material samples and develop the competence related to measurements to serve the needs of the university's research groups and companies.

The project in the region of Central Ostrobothnia, Northern Ostrobothnia and Kymenlaakso studies geoenergy in each region. During the project, research and test wells in cooperation in cooperation with research and teaching faults, a new dimensioning tool for energy system design and a nationwide bedrock thermal conductivity map will be built in each region. The aim is to initiate a change that will increase the energy self-sufficiency and security of supply of the regions through low-carbon geothermal heat.

The Biochar Time project explores the potential of former peat production areas to grow biochar raw materials and the use of low-cost alternative raw materials for biochar production. For example, demolition wood from construction, hemp and wet (waste) biomasses are used as raw materials. The key objective of the project is to create new carbon sinks and reservoirs, improve the utilisation of manufacturing processes and enhance the carbon neutrality of land use.

The aim of the project is to build a regional and almost real-time monitoring system that measures the impacts of land use measures implemented in the region in accordance in cooperation in cooperation with the green transition on the climate, water and coastal area.
