Business development grants and search results applied for in Northern Ostrobothnia

The regional cooperation group took note of the business development grants applied for in North Ostrobothnia for the period from 14 March to 31 December 2022. Development grants totalling EUR 29.2 million were applied for in Northern Ostrobothnia, Lapland and Kainuu. The number of applications received was 101.

The regional cooperation group also took note of the results of the applications for business development grants from 1 January to 28 February 2023. Since the beginning of the year, the North Ostrobothnia Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment has received 35 applications with a total planned funding of EUR 4.5 million.

The regional cooperation group supports three projects to be funded under the EU's Regional and Structural Policy Programme for a Renewable and Skilled Finland 2021-2027

Sustainable and integrated electrical energy storage with additive manufacturing methods (SIESAM) - Development project / ERDF

Applicant: University of Oulu and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland

Total cost estimate: 1 300 660 €

ERDF and State funding requested: 910 454 € (P-P 730 454 € and P-K: €180 000)

The aim of the project is to increase the material and manufacturing technology know-how supporting the development and industrialisation of the next generation battery cell technology. The aim is to enable the production of lithium-ion batteries, which is more environmentally friendly and socio-economically sustainable than existing battery cells.

Biomass recycling in North-Eastern Finland / ERDF

Applicant: Northeast Finland Development Company
Total cost estimate: €1 192 421
ERDF and State funding requested: € 834 696

The aim of the project is to increase rural business activity and create jobs by developing a cost-effective way of utilising environmental management biomasses. At the same time, a way will be developed to improve the nutrient cycle in rural areas, increase the self-sufficiency rate and make water and environmental management economically viable. The project will develop a new device for collecting water pests and other aquatic plants.

Smart Pilots ­- Piloting of smart unmanned systems in Northern Ostrobothnia/ERDF

Applicant: Centria University of Applied Sciences Ltd (Nivala-Haapajärvi Region NIHAK ry, Haapaveden-Siikalatva Region Joint Municipal Authority, Sievin Teollisuuspuisto Oy)
Total cost estimate: € 491 043
ERDF and State funding requested: € 481 222

The main objective of the project is to increase the skills and innovation capacity related to unmanned systems in the region. The project develops and pilots different use cases from the perspective of the area and end-users, and disseminates information about solutions to the area. In addition, the project aims to identify the suitability of use cases for other industries and develop solutions that can be commercialised.
