Meeting press release of the the Board of the Regional Assembly

The Government of Northern Ostrobothnia held a hybrid meeting on Monday, 21 February 2022.

Markus Erkkilä, Planning Director of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia

Markus Erkkilä, M.Sc. (Econ.), was elected to the position of Planning Director of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia. Erkkilä has been the planning director of the Federation of Central Finland since 2020. Prior to that, he has worked as a vs. planning director of the Regional Council of South Ostrobothnia and as a land use planner. The Director of Planning acts as the Director of the Regional Planning and Competence Division.

Members elected to international activities

Jussi Ylitalo, President of the Provincial Government, was appointed as a member of the Administrative Committee of Euregio Karelia, and Tuomas Okkonen, 3rd Vice-Chairman of the Provincial Council, was appointed as an alternate member.

Transport Working Group: Jouni Jussinniemi (deputy member Kaarina Kailo)
Maritime Working Group: Sari Nurro (deputy Harri Karjalainen)

Other issues

  • Advocacy issues raised by Regional Director Pauli Harju: a report on the regional development discussion with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the preparation of the Government Programme objectives.
  • The Provincial Government transferred its competence for the funding of the EU's regional and structural policy Renewable and Skilled Finland 2021-2027 programme so that the funding decisions are made by the Regional Development Manager and the regional development experts acting as rapporteur.
  • The provincial government transferred its competence for the decision-making of future funding applications in the nationally funded AKKE programme so that the funding decisions are made by the Regional Development Manager for the presentation of the regional development expert.
  • It was decided that the meeting of the provincial government in June 2022 would be held on Tuesday, 21 June. Otherwise, the previously decided meeting dates will remain in force.
  • The Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia has applied for AKKE funding for the project North Ostrobothnia Change Capability Study. The project prepares a report on the risks of structural change in the population, operating environment and livelihoods of the region. The project has a total budget of EUR 40 000 and will run from 1 March to 31 August 2022.
