A Renewable and Skilled Finland 2021-2027 Programme Proposal for EU Regional and Structural Policy
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has requested a statement on the proposal for a programme for a reforming and skilled Finland 2021-2027 in EU regional and structural policy. The programme proposal includes actions supported by the ERDF and ESF funds. Statement by the Regional Assembly of Oulu Region submitted on 16 April 2021.
Preparation of the Just Transition Fund (JTF)
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has requested an opinion on the start of the preparation of the Just Transition Fund (JTF) and the related environmental assessment. Statement by the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia submitted on 16 April 2021.
Karelia Programme 2021-2027
Cooperation programmes will continue to be implemented at the EU’s external borders also in the 2021-2027 programming period. Three separate cooperation programmes will be prepared for the Finnish-Russian border in accordance with the current programme division, and Karelia will be one of them. The preparation of the programme is ongoing and the aim is to submit the draft programme to the European Commission by the end of 2021. The initial priorities of the programme are linked to economic cooperation, the environment, tourism and culture. A new approach is being prepared to support people-to-people encounters at grassroots level. The Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia will act as the managing authority for the new programme, and the official designation will take place when the programme is approved.
Action Plan for the extractive sector in Eastern and Northern Finland
With the support of consultants, the Regional Councils of Eastern and Northern Finland have worked on a joint the Extractive Industries Action Plan. The importance of the extractive sector is particularly emphasised in Eastern and Northern Finland. Strong expertise and specialized business have emerged in the extractive industry to secure the development of responsible extractive activities. The sector has a significant indirect impact on the regional economy and employment. The aim of the operations is to develop the responsibility of mining from education to business.
Autumn 2021 meeting schedule
Schedule of the meetings of the Provincial Government and Council and the Assembly in autumn 2021:
- The Assembly will be held on 4 October 2021.
- The new regional council will meet on 8 November and 13 December 2021.
- the new provincial government will meet on 22 November and 20 December 2021.

The next meeting of the provincial government will be held on 17 May 2021.
