The availability of energy in Northern Ostrobothnia and Finland as a whole must be secured
We are now in a situation in Northern Ostrobothnia where energy production is facing significant challenges in terms of fuel availability. The price of energy is a crucial factor for all parties involved. The rise in price treats industry, agriculture and forestry as well as service production and the community in the same way. The share of companies' income, municipal income and citizens' wages that goes to the price of energy will increase if energy self-sufficiency is not immediately improved through support measures to overcome the acute crisis. In addition to managing the change in the short-term energy situation, plans must be prepared to return to fossil-free, climate-neutral and self-sufficient energy production and energy policy once the situation stabilises. The Finnish State must negotiate with the European Union in order to ease the taxation of energy production and emissions trading during the crisis.
Responding to the energy situation is necessary for the stability of society, consumer prices, jobs and the competitiveness of the export industry. There is now a need for a social consensus between political actors, the public sector and the energy industry. We must act at all levels, from municipalities, provinces, the state and the EU level, so that everyone in Finland, from citizens to communities and businesses, can survive with as little damage as possible.
