Investment potential and business prospects in the Barents region
the Lapland Chamber of Commerce Growth through CooperatioAccording to a study published by the n project, the investment potential in the Barents region of Northern Finland, Northern Sweden and Northern Norway reaches EUR 160 billion. The report took into account the investments in implementation, confirmed and planned, mainly until 2030. The results confirm the picture of the north as a driver of industrial livelihoods, and the implementation of climate targets is reflected in investments in an unprecedented way. Liisa Ansala, CEO of the Lapland Chamber of Commerce, presented the report to the Youth Council.
Activities of the Barents Regional Youth Council (BRYC)
Kosma Rönkä from Oulu, representing Northern Ostrobothnia in BRYC, and Hanna Honkamäkilä, Head of International Affairs at the Regional Youth Council of Northern Ostrobothnia, presented the activities of the Barents Regional Youth Council. BRYC (Barents Regional Youth Council) has been operating since 2004. International cooperation involves young people living in Barents member regions in Norway, Russia, Sweden and Finland. Participants will meet young people from other countries, gain new experiences and friends, work together on multicultural youth projects, build professional networks and learn about international cooperation. The Youth Council BRYC is composed of one youth representative from each of the thirteen member regions and one indigenous youth representative. BRYC's operations are guided by a board elected from among BRYC's members and chaired by its chairman. BRYC meets twice a year to discuss youth issues in the Barents region, to share news about its regions and to plan an annual youth event. The activities are financed by the annual support of the member regions and by project funding. BRYC is coordinated the International Barents Secretariat.
POPnuva moves to the North Ostrobothnia Welfare Area at the beginning of 2023
Riitta Pitkänen, Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Regional Council of North Ostrobothnia, told about the cooperation agreement between the Regional Council of North Ostrobothnia and the North Ostrobothnia Welfare Region, which enables cooperation between the Regional Council of North Ostrobothnia and the North Ostrobothnia Welfare Region in matters related to young people, as well as the wide-ranging operating conditions of the Youth Council. Marjo Riitta Tervonen, Head of Inclusion and Connectivity, presented the advocacy bodies of the North Ostrobothnia Welfare Region.
The Regional Youth Council of Northern Ostrobothnia (POPnuva) has acted in the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia. According to the Welfare Areas Act, in order to ensure the participation and influence of young people, the regional government must appoint a youth council of the wellbeing services area or a similar youth group. As it is not appropriate to maintain overlapping institutions, POPnuva will move to the wellbeing services county as of 1 January 2023. On 12 December 2022, the Regional Council approved an amendment to the Administrative Regulation of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia, whereby the chairperson and vice-chairpersons of the Youth Council of the Northern Ostrobothnia Welfare Region have the right to attend and speak at the meetings of the Regional Council for the duration of the cooperation agreement.
