Work package 2: Areas suitable for wind power (location control model)
The work package draws up a regional baseline report on wind power. A key objective is to develop a ‘location management model’ to support decision-making on the location of wind power generation. In addition to the overall assessment (location control model), potential wind power areas are also described in cooperation with target cards.
- The work package identifies areas suitable for wind power construction and defines areas that are not or less suitable for wind power production than other areas. The study takes into account both environmental and techno-economic aspects.
- The assessment of the potential of wind power production emphasises, among other things, a more detailed examination of the inland areas of the region and further consideration of the coastline and, if necessary, the sea area.
- The location management model and vision work are developed in interaction: vision work defines goals and criteria for the model, while the model produces information on opportunities and boundary conditions in different parts of the region.
- The final product presented is the updated wind power potential of Northern Ostrobothnia, an overall view of the conditions for the location of wind power and a description of the most suitable areas for wind power.
