Work package 3a: Green Structure and Ecosystem Service Survey
Background
In Northern Ostrobothnia, the extensive nature of wind power construction emphasises the need for coordination in cooperation with renewable energy production and the natural environment. Wind power areas are typically located in natural areas (forest areas). The sustainable siting of wind power areas requires knowledge of the natural values and ecosystem services (e.g. recreational values) of the areas to be taken into production.
It is justified to concentrate wind power production in areas in cooperation with as few other interests as possible and to minimise conflicts in cooperation with, for example, the safeguarding of biodiversity.

The TUULI project will produce a report on green structure and ecosystem services. As a concrete final product of the work package, an assessment of the regional entities in Northern Ostrobothnia that are important for biodiversity and ecosystem services is presented, as well as recommendations for regional spatial planning.
