Work package 4: Wind power and electricity transmission connections
Electricity transmission is a key part of the assessment of the feasibility of wind power areas and it is necessary to take better account of existing grid connection possibilities and development needs in future planning from the perspectives of electricity transmission capacity, costs and environmental impacts, among other things. Existing electricity transmission connections and connection possibilities significantly steer the location of wind power projects. On the other hand, the lack of interconnections can be a major obstacle to wind power construction.
Electricity transmission report
- The TUULI project creates an overall picture of the electricity transmission network and its development needs, taking into account the significant wind power areas under construction and planning in the area.
- The connection connections and connection possibilities serving wind power will be investigated.
- Consider and identify areas in the region where the development of the electricity network is required to enable wind power.
- Assess the overall impact of electricity transmission.
The aim is to make efficient use of the existing network, create synergies between the overall development of the network and the connection of wind farms, promote cooperation between different stakeholders and minimise the need for new transmission line construction.
The concentration of wind power construction in certain areas may also require the strengthening of the main grid and/or connection possibilities. In Northern Ostrobothnia, wind power construction has led to extensive transmission line construction, which in turn supports consideration of the matter.
