Blog: You still have time to influence the provincial programme
Young people, cooperation and the vitality of the region and the well-being of people in the main role
The current provincial programme for Northern Ostrobothnia outlines the direction in which the region will be developed in the coming years. It concerns us all – housing, entrepreneurship, well-being, the environment and the future of young people. You still have time to influence the focus of the program, because You can give feedback on the programme until 27 October..
The draft provincial programme 2026-2029 has sparked lively and constructive debate among different council groups. The presentations have highlighted perspectives that reinforce the importance of the programme as a compass for regional development.
The development of cooperation with key actors in the region, in particular the wellbeing services region, has been considered important in several political groups. The partnership promise has received broad support and has been considered to support ecosystem thinking. The programme's optimism efforts have been seen as inspiring and uniting the region.
The role of young entrepreneurs and strengthening faith in the future has emerged in several discussions. Dismantling barriers to entrepreneurship for people with partial work ability has also received attention. The attractive housing solutions and age-friendly thinking of rural agglomerations have been seen as a particularly important sub-theme.
The strength of the theme of well-being and especially highlighting the challenges of mental health have been praised. Further development has been seen in the promotion of integration and in the role of the Regional Council as a guardian of interests. In addition, the groups have been keen to strengthen the visibility of the maritime dimension in the programme.
Climate and environmental issues, such as the carbon balance and green investments, were raised in land use and tourism. The programme's target-orientation and, in particular, its population and workplace objectives were recognised.
The presentations have built the social acceptability of the programme and increased understanding of the activities of the Regional Council. Especially for the new councillors, the opening up of the programme and the role of the Regional Council has been important.
Discussions will continue – it has been agreed that the next event will take place at the end of October. The perspectives and development proposals received as feedback will be taken into account in the further preparation of the programme.
I therefore encourage everyone to participate in the preparation of the programme. It's easy! You can give feedback electronically or check out the programme on the website. Every comment is valuable and helps to make the program more relevant and impressive.
