North Ostrobothnia Association Award to Oulun Rantasaunaseura ry

Oulun Rantasaunaseura ry receives the 2023 North Ostrobothnia Organisational Award for the volunteer and cultural activities of the Summer Sauna, which strengthens Finnish and local sauna culture. The award-winning association receives 1,000 euros to support its operations.

The cultural activities of the 2023 sauna have focused around the sauna theme and deepened the visitor's experiences. Summer Sauna has created a diverse community in Oulu. The activities are boundary-breaking and in an exemplary way the theme of the year is realized in surprising contexts of culture. Oulun Rantasaunaseura has shown unique cooperation and volunteer spirit. The workshops are attended by people of many ages from Oulu and also international volunteers.

Summer Sauna is an Oulu-based phenomenon that naturally connects visitors of different ages, locals and international visitors. In 2023, there have been more than 14,000 sauna bathers, and during ten operational summers, there have been about 75,000 sauna bathers from more than 70 different countries.

– It is great to be recognised for the work we have done for the sauna culture in Oulu. Honour definitely belongs to our awesome group of talk operas, without which the Sauna of Summer would not rotate. The Summer Sauna will return to the Oulujoki River again in the coming summer, but before that we will continue to work on getting a year-round sauna to the Tuira beach, says Jussi Pöllä, Chairman of the Board of the Oulu Rantasauna Society.

The prize, which will be presented on Monday 7 November 2023 at the Regional Parliament of Northern Ostrobothnia, will be received by Chairman Jussi Pöllä, producer Katri Tenetz and association activist Niina Jortikka. The award is presented for the fifth time by Jussi Ylitalo, Chairman of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia, and Esa Aunola, Chairman of the Advisory Board for Organisations.

In September, the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia requested proposals for the Organisational Act of the Year 2023 in Northern Ostrobothnia. A total of 22 nominations were received, of which the Regional Government of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia selected the winner at its meeting on 18 October 2023.
