the Northern Ostrobothnia Regional Youth Regional Assembly
The Northern Ostrobothnia Youth Council met for the first time on Wednesday, 8 October 2025. The Northern Ostrobothnia Youth Council is a joint youth council of Pohde and the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia. The members represent the youth councils of 30 municipalities in Northern Ostrobothnia.
The Youth Council is one of Pohteen's three advocacy bodies, the other two being the Elderly Council and the Disability Council. The Youth Council participates in planning, preparing, implementing and monitoring the activities of the wellbeing services county in matters that are relevant to the services of children and young people. The current term of office of the Youth Council runs until 2027.
Youth Council offers important places for influencing
At its constitutive meeting, the Youth Council made the following choices for its new term of office:

Regional councillor: Matilda Alanen. Deputy member of the Regional Assembly: Jere Viinamäki.
Member of the Committee for the Future: Sara Suvanto From Kempele. Deputy member of the Committee for the Future: Emma Kannisto From Oulu, Finland.
Representative to the Security and Preparedness Board: Otto Soronen From Taivalkoski. Deputy member of the Security and Preparedness Board: What an Inkeroinen.
Representative on the Board for Welfare and Inclusion: Jere Viinamäki. Deputy member of the Committee for the Promotion of Welfare and Inclusion: Otto Soronen.
Representative in the regional student welfare cooperation group: Venla Heikkinen It's a saint. Deputy representative in the regional student welfare cooperation group: Jere Viinamäki.
Promising start for the new term
Collaboration Director of Pohte Marjo Riitta Tervonen points out that the induction and grouping day of the Youth Council, held before the constitutive meeting, heard the wishes of the members for the upcoming term.
– The well-being of young people and climate change were the main topics discussed. In addition to the institutions of Pohde, the Youth Council will also be represented in the Climate Working Group of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia, Tervonen adds.
Strategy Manager of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia Ilpo Tapaninen welcomes the fact that young people raised the importance of networking at both national and international level at their meeting.
– This reflects the desire of young people to build cross-border connections and to strengthen their impact on a large scale. The youth council's activeness and initiative create a strong foundation for joint development work, Tapaninen says.
