Mari-Leena Talvitie to head the provincial council
The Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia met for its first meeting on 8 November 2021 and elected its own Presidium, the Provincial Government and the Audit Board for the current municipal election period.
the Regional Assembly Mari-Leena Talvitie (Kok., Oulu) was elected Chairman. Jouni Jussinniemi (left, Pyhäjärvi) was appointed as the first vice-chair of the regional council, Jarmo Haapaniemi (sd., Kempele) as the second vice-chair and Tuomas Okkonen (ps., Liminka) as the third vice-chair.
The center remains the largest party in the council
In the provincial council elected by the Assembly of the Municipalities of Northern Ostrobothnia on 4 November, the Centre 27 will hold the position of the largest party. The National Coalition Party and the Finns Party both have 12 seats in the council. The Left Alliance has nine seats, the Social Democrats eight, the Greens six and the Christian Democrats one.
Jussi Ylitalo appointed President of the Provincial Government
Jussi Ylitalo (Centre, Tyrnävä) was elected as the chairperson of the regional government and Esa Aalto (Greens, Oulu) as the vice-chairperson.
The new provincial government has 13 members, each with a personal deputy. By party, the seats of the government are divided so that the centre has six seats, the assembly and the Finns Party each have two seats, and the Left Alliance, the Social-Democrats and the Greens each have one seat. The distribution of seats is based on the results of the municipal elections in Northern Ostrobothnia.

Kristian Ruotsalainen (Kok., Liminka) was elected as Chairman and Matti Leiviskä (Centre, Pyhätä) as Vice Chairman of the Audit Board.
