Six municipalities get their own wall mosaic work in art pilot
During the late summer and the coming autumn, mosaic technology will be used to produce unique works of art for Siikajoki, Pyhänäs, Raahe, Ylivieska, Reisjärvi and Pyhäjärvi in public spaces chosen by the municipality.
– Each work has been conceived together with the municipalities in order to be best suited to each municipality. The themes of the wall mosaics are selected from the nature of the region, e.g. plant, bird or fish theme. Municipalities vote on the sketches of the sites. Dialogue with local residents takes place through social media, says visual artist from the Gulf of Revonlahti Jenny Grönholm. He answers together with the sculptor Jass Kaselaan 's with the production of a series of mosaic works.
Municipalities get involved in the production of works. Together with the artists, they lay the mosaics on a cut-to-shape wooden substrate. There will be a special event for the barn. The works will form the sum of the parts of the municipalities’ collective nature-themed wall mosaic works.
– We are very excited about this art pilot in Raahe. We will get a wonderful piece of artwork for a youth space to be renovated at Vihanni's former municipal hall. It has been rewarding to come up with ideas for the work together with other municipalities. Hopefully the cooperation will continue after this pilot, comments the City of Raahe's Head of Cultural Services Piritta Rossi.
The mural mosaic, which will be completed in Siikajoki, will be taken to the Paavola multipurpose building and to the library in Pyhänäs. In Ylivieska and Pyhäjärvi, you can admire the work in the swimming hall. The location of Reisjärvi's work will be confirmed during the summer.
The artists will be in the localities for about a week, during which the residents will be welcome to prepare the work. The tour starts at Siikajoki and ends at Reisjärvi.

The artists in the art pilot are Jenny Grönholm, a visual artist from the Gulf of Revonlahti in Siikajoki, and his partner's sculptor.Jass to Kasela. They have created several impressive works using mosaic technology, such as: Butterfly Viimsi Upper Secondary School 2018, Fish in water the Väimelä Vocational School 2020 Before the flight Tabasalu High School 2021.
Sum of parts – site-specific series of works is one of the six art pilots to be carried out in the Northern Ostrobothnia Regional Council's Cultural Cell project at the end of the year. All pilots have in common inclusiveness, experientialism and experimentality. The themes to be discussed include nature and sustainability, everyday environments and the home region. We use the most diversei different art methods and different art practices. Each pilot results in a concrete work or experience. All pilots are community-based.
