North Ostrobothnia looks forward to promoting transport projects from the budget session
The difficult cyclical situation in construction is strongly visible in Northern Ostrobothnia, where two of the most significant bankruptcies in the construction industry have already occurred. The current cyclical situation justifies the rapid and frontloading of the government's investment programme to stimulate the economy.
Developing the accessibility of Northern Ostrobothnia and the Oulu region is in the interest of Finland as a whole. Without effective routes, foreign trade products will not be transported, and investments of an exceptional Northern scale will not take place. In terms of security policy and security of supply, accessibility is also important.
A rapid deployment project tray from Northern Ostrobothnia has been compiled for the Government's budget session on 19-20 September (annexed). The measures set out therein fall into three categories: to implement projects with good planning capacity, to promote the planning capacity of regional key projects and to increase the funding for road maintenance.
Rapid readiness projects would improve the operating conditions of the county's economy, the interconnection of different modes of transport and security of supply.
Funding for the planning of the regional spearhead projects on Route 4 and the main line would promote Finland's connection with Sweden and Norway through land connections and improve the conditions for utilising EU funding in the future.
Raising the financing of basic road maintenance would make it possible to carry out quickly expansionary paving and improvement projects that catch up with repair debt and improve the operating conditions of the business sector. By increasing the funding of basic information, the effects will spread widely in the region.
In addition, one of the key projects of the City of Oulu and regional influence is the renewal of Oulu's passenger railway yard. The Oulu passenger railway yard project is part of the MAL contract negotiations between urban areas and the state. Land use, housing and transport (MAL) agreements are agreements that the state enters into with the largest urban areas.
