Finland, Presidency of the Regional Assembly of the Baltic Sea States 2023-2024 - Regional Assembly of Oulu Region promotes the priority area Sustainable and prosperous region
Finland holds the Presidency of the Regional Assembly of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024. The presidency will be transferred to Finland from Germany. The cross-cutting themes of the Presidency, which began in early July, are overall security, crisis preparedness and resilience.
The Baltic Sea States and the CBSS work together in three priority areas: a secure area, a sustainable and prosperous area and a regional identity. They are all still essential objectives and Finland will strive to promote them all during its Presidency.
The Regional Assembly of Oulu Region is involved in promoting the Sustainable and Prosperous Priority Area through the EUSBSR PAC Tourism project, which is implemented together in cooperation with the Pomorskie Region of Poland. The project is responsible for coordinating the tourism policy area of the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The priority area ‘Sustainable and prosperous region’ aims to promote dialogue and the flow of information between researchers, social stakeholders and citizens.
The sustainable and prosperous region priority and the functioning of the tourism policy area of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region will be highlighted in Oulu on 4-5 June 2024, when the city will host the Baltic Sea Tourism Forum on sustainable tourism. The 2024 Forum is part of Finland's Presidency of the Regional Assembly of the Baltic Sea States.
The annual Tourism Forum focuses on developing cooperation in the Baltic Sea region and brings together between 100 and 150 tourism stakeholders. The Regional Assembly of Oulu Region is responsible for the preparation and practical implementation of the 2024 Baltic Sea Region Tourism Forum. The themes of the 2024 Baltic Sea Tourism Forum in Oulu will be published in autumn 2023.
The Action Plan of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region develops the entire Baltic Sea region and solves common problems. The objective of the tourism policy area is to strengthen the development of sustainable and responsible tourism in the Baltic Sea region, to create networks and to strengthen the dialogue between stakeholders in the tourism industry.
The Regional Assembly of the Baltic Sea States is an intergovernmental organisation for cooperation between the countries of the Baltic Sea region established in 1992. The members of the Regional Assembly are the Nordic countries, the Baltic countries, Germany, Poland and the European Union. The foreign ministers of the CBSS member states meet annually at the invitation of the presidency.
