Art Laboratory tours at the end of the line
Art Pilot explores residents' identities and encourages them to make art
The first art pilot of the Cultural Cell project of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia, the Art Laboratory, is already in its final stages. The first round of the art lab focused on the identity of the residents of the area by considering personal art relationships and things that are important to oneself through art. The materials collected during the round were analysed using service design methods, and based on these, the theme of the second round was designed We're the only ones in town. The theme sought the specialities and qualities of local residents with an experimental guiding art method.
“The method of lowering the threshold for making art proved to be an inspiring and inspiring way of approaching art” said the artists: Elina Stoor and Winter coat Pisilä.
In the third round of the Art Laboratory, participants were able to send greetings to neighbouring municipalities, through which exhilarating insights were made from nearby areas.
‘People often see things more perceptively a little longer’, inches Elina Stoor, visual artist, continues, ‘Art labs have been cheerful and laughter has crept into the topics’.
So far, more than 350 people of different ages have been reached by art during the Art Laboratory tours. These have provided ideas and materials for the final outputs to be placed in municipalities. In each of the six municipalities, community art works representing municipalities and municipalism are assembled and built from a textile composite. In the last, or fourth, round, the works will be on display, allowing the residents to influence and finalise them.

The Art Laboratory is an art meeting and testing place that deals with the identity of the area and its residents with the theme Ookko sees from anything at home? Welcome to the Art Lab. It runs in the municipalities of the southern region of Northern Ostrobothnia: In Siikalatva, Haapavesi, Haapajärvi, Kärsämäki, Nivala and Oulainen, everyday art and the art of the moment are the principles. The art laboratory is implemented by Visual Artist and Designer Master's student Elina Stoor and ceramic artist Talvikki Pisilä.
The Art Laboratory is one of the six art pilots of the Cultural Cell project of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia. One pilot involves three to six municipalities. All pilots have in common inclusiveness, experientialism and experimentality. The themes to be discussed include nature and sustainability, everyday environments and the home region. Various art methods and different art practices are used. Each pilot results in a concrete work or experience. All pilots are community-based and will be implemented during this year.
