Art all over the bucket in the yards and on the paths
Art Pilot's work is built along yards and paths in Alavieska, Kalajoki, Hailuoto, Pyhäjoki and Sievi. The works are built in workshops organised by municipalities using methods and practices based on participatory community and visual arts.
‘In practice, this means different methods of experimental visual art and guided discussion that stimulate participants’ self-expression and creative thinking.’ sums up the organiser of the workshops, the Chair of the Cultural Association Vimma, visual artist Blueberry Eirola.
“Inclusive exercises encourage participants to interact with each other and discuss the importance of community, art and culture in their own lives. The themes are approached in the workshops by functionally working together, encouraging doing things differently and experiencing the environment and everyday life from a new perspective. The aim of the workshops is to create a dialogical and open atmosphere between the participants and the art pilot’s instructors, where participants can present their own ideas and ideas safely and on a low threshold.”
All the aforementioned municipalities organise participatory art workshops that create the final work of art that everyone can experience. The first work is born in Kalajoki on the left side of the river park and the next one in Pyhäjoki Church Park. In Alavieska, the work is built along the museum path and in Sievi, in the green area of the city centre. In Hailuoto, the location of the work would probably be an old school yard. When the works are ready, they can be experienced and seen along municipal paths and yards, as well as sought inspiration for their own art projects.
The Culture Association Vimma is responsible for the implementation of the art pilot. Siikajoki Cultural Association Vimma is an association founded in 2022 that has been founded on the need to strengthen cultural activities in the municipality of Siikajoki, as well as in the surrounding areas to new dimensions. The association acts as a network of cultural operators and strengthens the opportunities for cultural professionals to carry out their work. In the autumn of 2022, Vimma organised, for the first time, a light art festival in the middle of ValoVIMMA in the core countryside, which attracted almost five hundred visitors.
One of the artists in the art pilot is Sinikka Eirola, who is a versatile visual artist. She studied visual arts, first at the Liminka Art School (2004-2005) and later graduated as a visual artist from Saimaa University of Applied Sciences, specialising in painting (2006-2008 and 2009-2011). Eirola has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions around Finland. In addition to being a free artist, Eirola has been involved in the development of various community art projects and is the chairman and founding member of the Siikajoki Cultural Association Vimma.
In addition to Sinikka Eirola, the second artist to lead the workshops will be a sculptor. Tiina Vehkaperä. Tiina is a sculptor, visual artist, performance artist, light artist from Oulu, Finland.
In Vehkaperä's own artistic production, it is essential to understand being, the essence of communication, and to observe the dynamics of humanity and relationships. His works speak of phenomena and elements that seem to recur in life and perhaps keep us alive.
Vehkaperä is a member of the Association of Finnish Sculptors, the Finnish Light Art Society FLASH, the T.E.H.D.A.S. collective and MUU ry. He has also served as the chairman of the Oulu Artists' Association for several years.
