Number of graduates
This measure includes the number of post-comprehensive level graduates aged 15 or over by qualification. In the examination, only the highest completed education is taken into account for each person. Secondary education refers, for example, to matriculation examinations or vocational qualifications. Tertiary education qualifications include those at the lowest level of tertiary education, lower and higher tertiary education, and graduate level. The source of all these statistics is Statistics Finland.
Educational attainment rate
The educational cell of the population describes the level of education by the average length per capita of the highest level of education completed after basic education. For example, education cell 246 shows that the theoretical training period per capita is 2.5 years after completing comprehensive school. For the purpose of calculating the educational attainment of the population, the population shall be the population aged 20 or over.

Secondary education graduates have between 11 and 12 years of education and training. Examples of such training include matriculation examinations, vocational qualifications of one to three years and basic vocational qualifications.
Specialist Qualification is for people who have developed their professional skills after initial training. The degree demonstrates the management of the most demanding tasks in the field. It requires solid work experience in the field.
Lowest level tertiary education lasts from 2 to 3 years after upper secondary school. Such trainings include, for example, technician's, merchandiser's and practical nurse's degrees, which are not polytechnic degrees.
Bachelor's degree it takes between three and four years of full-time study after upper secondary school. Lower university degrees include, for example, polytechnic degrees and lower university degrees.
Higher-Degree Level Tertiary Education as a general rule, five to six years of full-time study after upper secondary education are required to complete the course. For example, master's degrees and doctor's specialisation degrees are included in the upper university level.
Post-doctoral education the completion of the degree requires independent and publishable research work or a doctoral dissertation. The degrees are scientific licentiate and doctoral degrees.
