Iijoki Otva project - Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia

The Iijoki Otva project has ended. The project had three main objectives:

1. Formation of a shared vision for water
(Water management, fisheries, water management, land use and business are taken into account in the overall solution for water development)

2. Promoting the restoration of migratory fish stocks and securing the Baltic salmon stock
(promotion of fish road construction, promotion of fishing arrangements, smolt migration study)

3. Promoting development measures that increase the value of the river
(collection of project ideas, launch of new projects)

The name of the Otva project is related to the old dictionary. Otva meant a guide tree attached to the collision at one end, which prevented logs from sticking to the shore and the formation of fog. As a project name, Iijoki's otva symbolizes the desired role of the project in the smoother running of Iijoki's development work and migratory fish.

The project was managed by the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia. The co-implementer was Natural Resources Institute Finland. Pöyry Finland Oy, Akordi Oy and Mapita Oy were responsible for the water vision section.

The main funder of the project was the European Union (ELY Centre/ERDF). Other financiers were PVO-Vesivoima Oy, the City of Oulu, the Municipality of Ii, the City of Pudasjärvi, the Municipality of Taivalkoski, the City of Kuusamo, the Natural Resources Institute Finland and the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia.
