Business location statistics
Number of enterprises. The number of enterprise openings and closures is obtained from the registration data of Statistics Finland's Business Register and the Tax Administration, and the registrations of new enterprises are obtained from the Business Information System (YTJ) maintained by the Finnish Patent and Registration Office and the Tax Administration. Data are published quarterly four months after the end of the statistical reference period. The annual statistics are published in October of the year following the statistical reference year. The stock of enterprises is the number of enterprises active at that time, which includes enterprises subject to VAT in respect of business activities or the transfer of the right to use immovable property, as well as enterprises acting as employers. Data on start-ups and closures are updated over time. The number of enterprise openings in the first publication is generally lower than the reality, and the number of enterprise closures in the first publication is higher than the reality.
Gross value of production measure the actual output of the site. In addition to turnover, production activities include all income related to production, including production for own use and production delivered to other establishments of the company. The acquisition of merchandise is deducted from the proceeds in order to include in the production activity only the margin generated by the sale of merchandise.
Production value added measures the total value added generated by the various factors of production in the actual production activities of the establishment. The value added is calculated as the difference between income from production activities and operating costs. By definition, the costs do not include the labour costs of the establishment.
