Interreg Europe

Interreg Europe is a Europe-wide programme with a first call in 2022 and a second call in summer 2023.

Key points to consider in the application process:

  • applications may be submitted under all the priorities mentioned in the programme. In addition to these, there may also be projects focusing solely on governance themes (e.g. State aid, public procurement, business support, financial instruments, evaluation and monitoring methods). This has never been possible before.
  • projects must include partners from all four European geographical regions (North, East, West, South).
  • implementation of projects in two phases: the first phase lasts 3 years (exchange of experience and joint learning, fixed duration), the second phase (follow-up) lasts 1 year. It will be possible for projects to start monitoring activities already during the first phase. The duration of the projects is 3+1 years.
  • pilot actions: it is possible to apply for funding for pilot actions either at the moment of the project application or at the moment of the mid-term evaluation of the project, not at any other time. Restriction: one pilot action/region/project.
  • policy authorities (such as PPL) must be involved in the projects: 50 or more% the authority responsible for the policy instruments identified in the project must be a partner in the project; for the other policy instruments targeted by the project, the authority must be involved in the associated policy partner role (a document of commitment to be signed, no own budget, but travel and accommodation may be included in the costs of the partners, be a member of a stakeholder group, participate in project activities be reported). One area can be represented by more than one partner.
