Arctic Europe - cooperation supports the objective of Northern Ostrobothnia to be a strong influencer in the European Arctic and the Bothnian Arc. Arctic Europe is an action concept launched at the initiative of the City of Oulu, which aims to create a synergy ecosystem for cross-border cooperation between the key regions of Arctic Europe. The aim is to strengthen the vitality and sustainable growth of the entire Arctic region.
The themes of cooperation are:
- Growth and competitiveness of the region
- Improving infrastructure and accessibility
- Smart Arctic
- Joint communication, marketing and international visibility
Cooperation with the UAE Emirate of Sharjah
The Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia signed a letter of intent on cooperation the American University of Sharjah with us in 2017. Cooperation between public administration, education and business has been implemented in many different ways. One of the themes has been education export projects in the region. In January 2019, at the invitation of Sharjah Sheikh Fahim Sultan Al Qasim, companies, education and research organisations from the Northern Ostrobothnia region and the City of Oulu visited Sharjah under the leadership of the Regional Council. The delegation visited, for example, Sharjah RDI Park (STRIP), where its operations were presented to us by CEO Hussain Al Mahmoudi (pictured in the middle with sunglasses on).
