The Energy Strategy set two high-level objectives to set a reference framework for the development of the energy economy in the region:
– The energy sector supports the competitiveness of the economy, the sustainable exploitation of the region’s natural resources and the quality of life of its inhabitants.
– Progress towards a low-emission energy system by 2050.
Northern Ostrobothnia Climate Strategy
The aim of the Northern Ostrobothnia climate strategy is to cut the region's greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the European Union's and national targets 20 % by 2020 and 80 % by 2050. Increasing the share of renewable energy sources in energy production, improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption are key measures for the emission reduction targets.
