Starting points:
-The EMMI project will provide new information for the ongoing the Energy and Climate Phase of Northern Ostrobothnia and contributes to the related decision-making.

Measures:
The work is divided into two separate areas. The immediate main output of both work packages is a written report. The studies are acquired as a purchasing service and conducted in close cooperation with experts from the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia and its networks. As a result of the work, the cooperation will be strengthened.

WORK PACKAGING 1. Report on the opportunities and land use conditions of renewable energy production and the associated green hydrogen economy in Northern Ostrobothnia.
-Predictive and well-thought-out land use ensures, among other things, the operating conditions for renewable energy production. In order to respond to the ongoing energy transition, it is important to explore the potential of wind power and other renewable energy production and the related hydrogen economy.
-Hydrogen and renewable energy are interlinked, as hydrogen provides an alternative to energy storage and helps to even out fluctuations in energy production and consumption, and can thus enable the addition of CO2-free energy, such as wind and solar power, in energy systems.
–the TUULI Project According to the study, electricity transmission can become a challenge in some of the potential wind power areas. Regional measures are needed to promote renewable energy production and local solutions.-The hydrogen economy has been examined in several studies from a techno-economic point of view. The main focus of this study is on land use.
-A report on the commission of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia was prepared by Sweco Oy and Gaia Oy.
-The report was steered by a sparring group consisting of representatives of municipalities' land use and business operations, as well as companies and RDI organisations. The sparring group met three times during the work.
-Open stakeholder engagements were organised on 11/2022 and 1/2023. There were more detailed municipality-specific reviews with the municipalities of Northern Ostrobothnia.
-The report was presented to the Regional Government of Northern Ostrobothnia on 11 April 2023.
