Background and objectives
Keeping up with international development requires active networking and participation in international project consortia. The project provides information on international funding applications and support for the preparation of applications. The aim of the project is to increase the number of internationally funded projects in Northern Ostrobothnia and to activate innovation actors to participate actively in international consortia that take into account the needs of the local business community and the utilisation of the high level of expertise found in the region.
The aim of the project is to reduce differences in innovation activity within the region and to create operating models that encourage the cross-sectoral networking of innovation actors in the region, nationally and internationally, enabling the creation of new openings. The project also aims to raise awareness among regional actors about European cluster cooperation networks and the quality system created for clusters. One goal is also to raise awareness of the services offered by the region's innovation platforms and to be responsible for implementing the smart specialisation strategy in Eastern and Northern Finland in Northern Ostrobothnia.
In the measures of the international and networked Northern Ostrobothnia project, cooperation networks in the region will be increased by organizing regular meetings and events between actors. The aim in organizing the events is to take into account the interdisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity, which creates opportunities for the creation of new innovative openings. The aim is to reach out to actors across the region. Physically organised events are complemented by shorter webinars and videos presenting, for example, the innovation platforms of the region.
As a result of the project, the networks of innovation actors in Northern Ostrobothnia will grow and the business community will become more aware of existing innovation platforms and research services. The ability to make use of international funding is increasing and the threshold for applying for direct EU funding is lowered. In the long term, the region's business life is expected to be better connected to European value networks, and with the new networks created within the region, project activities that better meet the needs of the whole region will be created in the region.
The primary target group is actors in the smart specialisation strategy of Northern Ostrobothnia, such as companies, universities and research institutes, educational institutions, business and development organisations, municipalities, associations and various developers nationally and internationally.
The following work packages contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Kanves project:
Work package 1: Increased regional co-operation networks.
Stakeholder meetings, events, factsheets (webinars) and presentations of regional innovation platforms.
Work package 2: Joining and utilising international networks.
Participation in international partnerships is particularly encouraged in the themes where the Smart Specialisation Strategy for Northern Ostrobothnia has identified the potential to join international value chains.
Work package 3: Information and assistance in applying for international funding and workshops to increase financial expertise.
Work package 4: Linking cluster activities to developments at EU level.
To raise awareness among cluster actors of cluster activity in Europe and its impact on regional development.
Work package 5: Implementation of the Northern Ostrobothnia actions of the Eastern and Northern Finland livelihoods in transition project.

The project will be implemented by the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia and will run from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2023. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Regional Development Fund of Northern Ostrobothnia. The total budget of the project is EUR 265 946.

Innovation platforms to support business development: four activities of the Northern Ostrobothnia innovation platform presented
The international and networked North Ostrobothnia (Kanves) project has published a series of introductory videos on four innovation platforms that are important from the perspective of the region. Each video introduces the operation of the innovation platform and interviews a company that has used the platform's services to support its business. Extractive industries as enablers of clean transition - Smart Specialisation Partnership for extractive industries event on 17 October 2023
The purpose of the event is to inform actors in the region about the Mining Smart Specialisation Partnership in Europe and to share the perspectives of national and regional actors on the opportunities of the clean transition for the extractive sector. Representatives of the Province of Lapland, Business Joensuu, Radai and the University of Oulu will speak at the event. At the event, it will be possible to network with actors in the field and at the same time we will map out the actors in Northern Ostrobothnia who are interested in partnership and networking at EU level.

Opportunities for the reconstruction of Ukraine- info 22.8.
Ukraine is trying to start reconstruction quickly, although the situation has not yet calmed down. What can be done at this stage and how can we anticipate the future? Come and hear about cooperation and export opportunities at the Ukraine Reconstruction Opportunities Info 22.8. In addition, the implementation of Northern Ostrobothnia and the further steps in promoting the matter will be discussed. The event is intended especially for companies in Northern Ostrobothnia and organisations interested in reconstruction. The event is open to everyone and free of charge.
Petri Vuorio, Director of the Confederation of Finnish Industries, Oskari Laukkanen, Senior Specialist at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and Reijo Kangas, Director of Business Finland, talk about the possibilities of Finnish companies in rebuilding. They will also present MFA's and Business Finland's support measures for companies. In addition, the regional company's commentary will be given by Hanna Haipus, Business Director at Kontiotuote Oy.
Perspectives on the potential of European interregional cooperation: Vanguard Initiative Network and Partnerships for Regional Innovation Pilot
The Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia, in cooperation with the EU Office for Eastern and Northern Finland and experts from the Kerttu Salaasti Institute of the University of Oulu, is organising an information event on the activities and opportunities of the Vanguard network and the impact of Partnerships for Regional Innovation on the development of smart specialisation.

The theme of the workshop is Horizon Europe and the EIC Accelerator, as well as studying the search texts together and looking for opportunities for cooperation!
Culmentor Oy's Senior Expert Heidi Honkanen explains the operating principles of Horizon Europe and introduces the EIC Accelerator. In small groups, we familiarise ourselves with the application texts of the Horizon Europe programme and explore opportunities for cooperation. Careful review of search texts is an important success factor in funding applications. This workshop is aimed at all actors in Northern Ostrobothnia interested in applying for international funding under Horizon Europe and the EIC Accelerator, as well as analyzing the application texts in cooperation with actors from different fields. Culmentor Oy's Senior Expert Heidi Honkanen gives tips on how to prepare a project application and a consortium, as well as the intricacies of the application process. The workshop is aimed at all actors in Northern Ostrobothnia who are interested in applying for international EU funding (not national sources of EU funding). Agricultural strategies in a changed operating environment webinar 27.4.2022 in Ylivieska
The themes of the event were the state of agriculture from both a practical regional and a broader perspective. The focus is on functional and technical solutions to adapt to the radical change in the operating environment. In addition, there was an international perspective and the activities of the ERIAFF network and smart specialisation partnerships in our region were presented.
