Finland's strategies and studies
Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment published in early 2021 National Battery Strategy 2025. The strategy aims to promote business renewal, innovation and growth capacity, as well as to pave the way for new investments and jobs. The strategy places a strong emphasis on ensuring expertise in the battery sector and strengthening cutting-edge research in Finland.
The National Battery Strategy stated that public and private research infrastructures in this area should be explored. commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and done by VTT Study on battery cluster research infrastructures The publication mapped the current research infrastructures of the battery cluster and their general and more technical descriptions.
The battery strategy identified that there are still gaps in some areas of competence in the battery value chain, even though the general level of competence in Finland is high. As a result, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment published in April 2022: Study on skills needs and attractiveness of education in the battery sector publication. The aim of the study is to map and find out the demand for battery value chain expertise in companies and the attractiveness of education in the field among young people, students of technology and the environment and potential changers in the field.
Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra
Battery ecosystem - State of play report The publication contains information on the circular economy of batteries from a global perspective and on the operating environment related to batteries in Finland.
The strong growth of the battery sector in recent years is the result of international and national targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In a report published in 2018 (Cost-efficient emission reduction pathway to 2030 for Finland) the effects of electrification of transport on emission reductions have already been considered.
Sitra published in September 2021 Role of electrification in achieving Finland's climate goals -jujujujujujuju. The aim of the report is to create a holistic view of electrification and reducing emissions in Finland, thereby complementing and clarifying the outlook for the future of the energy system.
Published in October 2021 How do experts move around the area? The report examines the integration of vocational upper secondary and tertiary education graduates into the labour market and regions.
Geological Survey of Finland
GTK was involved in the Nordic Innovation-funded study on the raw materials in the Nordic bedrock, which can cover a significant proportion of almost all metals and minerals needed for Europe's transition to a low-carbon society. Results published The Nordic Supply Potential of Critical Metals and Minerals for a Green Energy Transition – in the report.
Publication of GTK Map services and mining maps This allows the observation and measurement of mineral and ore deposits in Finland, as well as the interpretations made of them, to be examined.
