Cultural heritage is all resources inherited from the past. Cultural heritage can be tangible or intangible, site-bound or unbound. Cultural heritage involves the conception and understanding shared by many actors or people.
The region's cultural heritage is alive.
Intangible or living cultural heritage is, for example, oral tradition, performing arts, social life practices, rituals and ceremonies, or knowledge, skills and practices concerning nature and the universe. Cultural environment refers to an entity consisting of different elements of different ages, created by human activity or human-nature interaction – the daily environment of people. Some of it is protected or otherwise designated as particularly valuable. The cultural environment also has intangible meanings. The cultural environments of Northern Ostrobothnia – landscapes, building heritage and archaeological heritage – have been taken into account in the 2nd and 3rd phase regional plans.
