POPnuva brings the voice of young people to the development of the county
The Regional Youth Council of Northern Ostrobothnia, POPNUVA, has acted in the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia. The activities have been wide-ranging and diverse. The aim of POPnuva is to represent young people in the planning and development of the county and to bring forth young people's ideas for the consideration of the county's organs without party-political or religious interests. The aim is, among other things, to bring regional decision-making and regional development closer to the everyday life of young people in Northern Ostrobothnia and to involve young people more widely in advocacy work. The members have various representation and expert duties and steering group memberships.
Section 32 of the Welfare Regions Act (611/2021) specifies that the regional government must appoint a youth council or similar youth group to ensure the participation and influence of young people.
As it is not appropriate to maintain overlapping institutions, POPNUVA was transferred to the Welfare Area as of 1 January 2023. The cooperation agreement between the Regional Council of North Ostrobothnia and the North Ostrobothnia Welfare Region enables cooperation between the Regional Council of North Ostrobothnia and the North Ostrobothnia Welfare Region in matters related to young people, as well as the extensive operating conditions of POPNUVA in the future.
