The Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year and the Summer University of Northern Ostrobothnia is celebrating its 70th anniversary. As part of the centenary programme, the Studia Generalia lecture series was organised. The lecture series discussed, among other things, the growth, competitiveness and transition points of the region's economic structure, new regional policy, regional identity and the youth issue.
Due to the coronavirus, the Studia generalia series was organized as a webinar.
Each broadcast had a presentation and then the topic was discussed with the interviewer.
The lecture series was broadcast online and recordings of the performances are available on the website of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia and the Summer University of Northern Ostrobothnia, www.pohjois-pohjanmaa.fi and www.ppkyo.fi
The recordings will be subtitled in January 2022.

INDIVIDUALS:
Tytti Tuppurainen is a 45-year-old City Councillor, Member of Parliament and Minister of Oulu. Tuppurainen holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Oulu. Tuppurainen's path towards social influence started early as the chairman of the Nature Youth of Oulu. In addition to his studies, he led Oulun Ekotuote Oy, which developed recycling in Oulu and employed the long-term unemployed, people with partial work ability and rehabilitees. Tuppurainen has been in Oulu City Council since 2000. He has long served as the decision-maker of the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia in various roles, twice also as the chairman of the regional council. Today, Tuppurainen is the Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering of Sanna Marin's Government. Tuppurainen is married and a mother of two children. A balance is given to the ministerial urge to share time with the family. Reading, sauna and spending time with the family's Belgian Shepherd-Rosa, as well as studying Russian, are also part of Tuppurainen's ways of recovering.
Matti Enbuske has been appointed Dean of Education of the Faculty of Humanities for the period from 1.1 to 31.12.2021. In addition to working as a dean, she works as a university lecturer in the subject of history. Graduated with a Master of Philosophy degree in 1992 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2008. Docent in history since 2011. She has worked as a part-time lecturer in general history, as an amanuensis and assistant in Finland and Scandinavia, as a grant researcher, as a university lecturer and as a professor. His research interests have focused on the history of ethnicity and identities in the northern regions, the problems of the regions, and the history of settlements and population. Enbuske has also studied the relations between central power and periphery, migration, and the history of the environment and infrastructures. In his free time, he is an enthusiastic bench athlete and an active member of the Simon Kiri Society, especially in baseball. He reads a lot and watches TV series, especially action and detective series.
Anssi Paasi He is a Finnish geographer. Paasi has been a professor of geography at the University of Oulu since 1989. Ph.D. degree in 1986 (dissertation on the construction of Finnish provinces and the regional awareness of their inhabitants). From 2008 to 2012, Paasi was an Academy Professor. Paasi is particularly interested in theoretical and methodological problems in geography, new regional geography and political geography. In his research, Paasi has focused on, among other things, the social construction and identity of Finland and its regions, the theory of the region and the changing meanings of the region, territories and boundaries in political geography, globalisation rhetoric and geopolitical imagination, as well as the regions' Europe and spatial planning. Paasi was awarded the North Ostrobothnia Prize in January 2015. The Finnish Union of Professors selected Paas as Professor of the Year 2020. The explanatory memorandum stated that Paasi ‘is considered to be the most internationally renowned, respected and cited Finnish human geographer’.
Kirsi Latola After graduating as Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oulu in 2000, his career has focused on research and education cooperation in the northern and Arctic regions. He is currently the Research Coordinator at the Thule Institute of the University of Oulu and Vice-Rector for Networks at the International University of the Arctic. He is an active member of projects supporting Arctic and polar research (INTERACT, EU-PolarNet) and organisations such as the European Polar Board, where he also chairs. In 2018, the University of the Arctic awarded him with the highest accolade, a certificate of honour, for his achievements in the implementation of the Thematic Networks programme of the University of the Arctic and for the work done for the cooperation of the networks. Kirsi Latola has been involved in designing and implementing the Arctic Five network of five universities, which includes the University of Oulu, the University of Lapland, Luleå University of Technology, the University of Umeå and the University of Tromsø. His extensive knowledge of the Nordic cooperation field and the international organisations operating there, accumulated over more than 15 years, supports the coordination and multidisciplinary cooperation of Arctic research at the University of Oulu.
Tomi Kiilakoski, PhD, is a researcher in charge of the Youth Research Network and a docent at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Tampere. His motto is that crossing borders is more interesting than crossing them. She has studied the inclusion of children and young people, school in the youth arena, youth work, and cultural philosophy. Kiilakoski has written and edited eleven works in Finnish. He actively participates in the development of youth work, school and welfare policy at local and national level. In his spare time, he plays mandolin and guitar in folk bands.
