The Iijoki migratory fish tip project revitalised salmon and sea trout populations in the Iijoki river. The lower part of the Iijoki river also supported the living conditions of the hides and whitefish.
In Iijoki, the long-term goal is the natural life cycle and free movement of migratory fish upstream and downstream.
The project measures were: Promoting the construction of the Raasakka power plant dam's fish road, smolt migration solutions, a planting programme for small juveniles, and measures on the old channels of Raasakka and Maalismaa.
The project was funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, PVO-Vesivoima Oy, Ii, Oulu, Pudasjärvi, Taivalkoski, Kuusamo, Metsähallitus, the Regional Council of Northern Ostrobothnia and the Iijoki river basin fishing area. The North Ostrobothnia Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment and the Natural Resources Institute Finland were also strongly involved in the project.
The project was implemented as part of the Government's nature policy spearhead project.
